This month has been busy, and next month looks to be just about the same. I’ve got two birthdays this month and two TTRPG weekend games. Luckily, I have two full weekends to just relax, read, write, and celebrate my puppy Lucy’s gotcha day (on the 19th). You can see a photo of her at the end of the blog!

I’m currently in the query process for my novel Falling Apart Together, and I am hoping to hear more positive news from agents soon. I’ve received 20 rejections, but surprisingly, I’m not feeling discouraged. It’s almost thrilling to see the emails and know that one day one of them will be a partial or a full request, and one day it will be an offer letter.

While I wait for this process to take its sweet time, I’m taking a moment to step back from the other two books in the series and focus on working on another book set in the same world. Let’s be honest, if they don’t pick up book one, I can’t just send out book two.

I haven’t titled my new project yet, but I will set it in my hometown of Fort Worth, Texas. Unlike Falling Apart Together, which features a zombie, this will most likely feature a devil. So far, no ideas about the love interest other than gender (non-binary, masc presenting), job (drag queen), and a few tropes (I had nowhere else to go, touch them and die). But that can all come after my research.

I’m taking the time to really enjoy this small writing break while I compile my research. While my brain and fingers itch to put words on the page, writing blind isn’t my style. I usually need a basic premise to get started, even if I’m a certified panster.

But next month my wife and I will go to Paris to celebrate five years together. Our actual anniversary is in November, but May in Paris is supposed to be beautiful, so I’m excited about that. We’re spending the week at Disneyland Paris and honestly, it’s so exciting. I’ve been a person who travels outside the US, but my wife never has. Bonus points, she’s not the best flyer, but that’s okay. She’s super excited to see the dragon under the castle and eat so much cheese. So, I hope that’s enough to get her over the Atlantic Ocean.

So, now that you know a little about me, let me lay out my blog and what it will feature. The goal is to post weekly on Wednesdays. So far I’ve succeeded in this task. Each week of the month will cover a different topic. Week one will be a Queer Book of the Month recommendation. Week two will be a glimpse into my writing process. Week three will be my monthly life update. Week four will be lessons I’ve learned from other authors just by reading their work. Week five, which only happens every now and then, will be a TBR update.

So, make sure you come back for more!
